Goods-to-Person Picking Systems

In a manual warehouse, the biggest cost in every pick is travel. Operators push trolleys up and down aisles, searching for locations and doubling back for missed lines.

Goods-to-person (GTP) automation flips that. Stock is stored in a dense, automated system, and robots deliver the right tote to an ergonomic pick station, in the right sequence. Your operator picks, confirms and moves to the next order without taking a step.

SAS delivered Australia’s first OPEX Perfect Pick HD installation for a national office supplies distributor. The brief was one many growing warehouses share: handle rising pick volumes without adding floor space or headcount at the same rate.

How it works

Every GTP project starts with your numbers, not a product brochure. We size the system to your SKU profile, order mix and growth plans, then build, integrate and support it locally. A turn key solution.

Step 1

Analyse your operation

We study your order lines, SKU velocity, peaks and current pick rates. This shows whether GTP will pay back, and how big the system needs to be.

Step 2

Design and simulate

We model storage capacity, robot count and pick station layout, then test the design against your real peak days before anything is built.

Step 3

Install and integrate

Our team installs the system and connects it to your WMS or ERP through our SASCA control software, phased to keep your warehouse shipping.

Step 4

Go live and grow

We train your team, tune performance after go-live and provide local support. Add robots, storage or stations as volumes grow.

Benefits

What changes when stock comes to your team

1

Higher pick rates

With no walking or searching, operators spend their shift picking. Systems like Perfect Pick HD present up to 1,000 totes per hour to a single station.

2

Fewer picking errors

Each tote arrives with the exact item and quantity shown on screen. Guided prompts at the station help catch mistakes before the order is packed.

3

More storage in less space

High-density storage uses your full building height and removes most aisles. Store more SKUs in the same footprint, or free up floor space for other work.

4

Lower cost per order line

Less travel means fewer labour hours per pick. Peaks are handled by the system, not by hiring and training temps.

5

Safer, easier work

Operators stay at a station set to the right working height. No ladders, no heavy trolleys, less fatigue across a long shift.

6

Room to grow

Add iBots, robots, storage or pick stations as volumes rise, without redesigning the warehouse.

Is your warehouse ready for goods-to-person?

Most sites are closer than they think. These are the four areas we review in our assessment. If one isn't in place yet, we'll help you plan for it.

Space and building

Enough floor area and clear height for the storage structure and pick stations, plus a suitable slab. GTP systems use height well, so they often fit where you'd expect to need an extension.

Warehouse Management Software

Your system needs to share orders and stock data in real time. Our SASCA control software connects GTP equipment, so you don't need to replace what already works.

Power and network

Reliable power and IT infrastructure to keep robots, stations and software running through every shift.

Clean SKU and order data

Accurate item dimensions, weights and order history let us size the system correctly and keep it running at full speed after go-live.

It's an automated system that brings stored items to a fixed pick station, instead of sending operators to find them. Robots retrieve the right tote and present it to the picker, who picks the item and sends the tote back to storage.

In person-to-goods picking, operators walk or drive to each location, and travel can take up most of their time. With goods-to-person, operators stay at one station and the system does the travelling. That usually means higher pick rates, fewer errors and less floor space.

It suits operations with many SKUs, high order-line volumes, rising labour costs or limited space. We assess your order and SKU data to model the return before recommending anything. If GTP isn't the right fit, we'll tell you.

It depends on system size and site readiness. A typical OPEX Perfect Pick installation takes around 4–6 months from contract to go-live. We provide a detailed schedule during design.

Removing travel cuts the labour needed for each pick significantly, freeing your team for higher-value work such as packing, replenishment and quality checks. We'll estimate your savings from your own data during the assessment.

Yes. You can add storage, robots or pick stations as volumes increase, without replacing the original system.
